5 Minutes Morning Makeup Magic

Brilliant Beauty Tips

Reading Time: 4 minutes

Time is a precious commodity in our busy lives – we all want to look good without spending a lot of time on it. Luckily there are some amazing little beauty tricks which allow us to do just that. We just need to focus on some key areas and voila, we’re ready to face whatever life throws at us. Here are some tried and tested makeup and hair tips that will ensure that you look and feel the best version of you every morning.

This routine shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes – it’s what I do most mornings before setting off to my makeup studio via the school run.

Good skincare will ensure that our skin is in top condition and we’ll need just a minimal base. Try out several different cleansers and moisturisers to ensure you find what works for your skin type. If you’ve been using the same products and the results are still not as you want them to be, then this is a sign that you need to try something different.

A really fantastic moisturiser that is suitable for all skin types and full of BioOrganic products is Cell Revitalise Day Moisturiser by Aurelia Probiotic Skincare. This beautiful cream will allow your skin to stay hydrated without clogging the pores all day long.

A great budget option is Skin Recovery Cream by Avène – suitable for most sensitive skins types. I carry this one in my professional makeup kit at all times.

At the end of the day remove your makeup with micellar cleansing water such as the one by Caudalie, which is adored by many makeup artists. It’s gentle yet effective and removes all makeup without irritating the skin.

And drink lots of water. Every day.

Once the skin is moisturised, apply a little bit of coverage that blends easily. My daily favourite is Chantecaille Future Skin Foundation which is oil-free, full of goodness and vegan-friendly.

An alternative option is Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation. You don’t even need a brush, just use your fingers and focus on areas that need evening out most. Make sure you apply a thin layer and pat it in very well. Your skin will appreciate a quick massage whilst you’re working in your foundation or BB cream.

For those of you with oily or combination skin try Estée Lauder Double Wear Light Stay-in-Place Makeup SPF 10 foundation as it wears extremely well.

Follow this up with concealer under the eyes – focus on your inner-eye area as it tends to be the darkest. This will brighten up your eyes and they will look fresh and rested. Also sweep a little bit of concealer onto your lids to neutralise any redness as well as outer lid corners to create an eye-lifting effect. One of my favourite budget concealers is Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer.

Now take a creamy eyeshadow stick such as Laura Mercier Caviar Stick or Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow Stick in the colour of your choice. Sweep a couple of strokes of colour onto the lid, running it along the lash-line and gently blend in with your finger.

Your eyes will now have gentle colour as well as highlighter which will create a brightening effect.

Optional: take a small angled brush like 266SH by MAC, dip it into any dark eyeshadow in either navy, dark brown, grey, dark green or plum colour and apply it to the base of the lashes. Your eye colour will instantly pop!

Next curl your lashes with Shu Uemura Eyelash Curlers (the only curlers you will ever need) and apply Rimmel London Lash Accelerator Endless Mascara  which is my current favourite budget mascara. For those of you who enjoy voluminous lashes try Lancôme Hypnôse Volume-à-porter Mascara.

It’s important that you grab the lashes from the root and tease them upwards in a zigzag motion to ensure that mascara is applied to each lash fully and the roots are covered. This is especially important for those of you with naturally blonde lashes.

Grab a blusher – a really great colour that suits so many different skin tones is Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso or Laura Mercier Cheek & Eye Colour in Windflush. Blush the apples of your cheeks and then use a MAC 217 Blending Brush to apply a bit along the eye socket – just enough to warm up the crease and create a gentle veil of colour. This will tie up your cheek and eye colours and you’ll glow with beauty and health.

Now for your brows use a tinted gel such as L’Oreal Paris Cosmetics Brow Artiste Plumper and brush them into place, they will look instantly fuller and tidier.

A sweep of tinted lip balm such as Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm and you’re ready to face the day looking like you were born this way!

For an additional treat spritz your skin with a hydrating mist such as Beauty Elixir by Caudalie  – use it on top of the makeup for a glowing complexion and to freshen up the skin during the day!

  • What a great post. I’m clueless at makeup but this seems achievable and I shall be going out to buy many of the products recommended here. I’m looking forward to it.

  • I too am clueless about makeup. I love that all the different brushes are named, and some have 2 different priced products.
I would love a quick, sped up video to help highlight some of the techniques mentioned.
Also would love a blog later with cruelty free products listed.
